2013: Bangkok – Nakhon Si Thammarat 2013: Bangkok - Nakhon Si Thammarat In 2006 I already had cycled from Trang to Bangkok. This time I wanted to cycle in the opposite direction, my finalle destination not on the Andaman coast, but to Nakhon Si Thammarat on the Gulf of Thailand. Till Chumpon I had to take the same road as in 2005, but then I decided to cross the penninsula to Ranong. The name comes probably from the English "raining", and indeed, it was very moysty in Ranong. Though I liked the small town, with it's busy fish market and it's particular atmosphere that is so typically for border towns. The coastline southwards was in 2004 also victim of the tsunami, but the nearly visible warning signs showed that nobody is yet thinking about anothe tsunami. In Phuket I take a few days rest, enjoying the beach and the night life. But when I cycle to Pang Nga, I feel sick. I continue to Krabi where I take another day off. I hire a small boat with a guide and explore the mangroves. In 2 days I cross the penninsula again between the vast latex forests. After 2 days in Nakhon Si Thammarat I return by train first to Surat Thani, later to Bangkok.
